Reflective 1.1

🔺

In all truthfulness I am totally unprepared to teach with ICT in my classroom (or to teach at all, in fact!!)... and I am giving myself a great big fat zero... Which I am completely ok with.. as that why I am back at uni!!  I love to learn...

As can be expected I am feeling a little overwhelmed by the course/unit material and returning to study on a whole; the flood of new terminologies is scary.... EEEKS! Settling back into study really is a whole new routine to recommence; and I need to remember to not fall back into old study habits (step away from the fridge Anna!!)

In my quest to be a lifelong learner I need to remember why I am doing this and what I am actually going to get out of this.... which is a truly exciting.

The welcome and overview presented to us (the learners!!) really excited me... the presentation of the course material is completely what I want from a post grad. study unit! It’s flawless...all of the links work.. and so on...

I like the notions presented and I would like to think I mother my little boy in these ways and will be able to carry it through to my classroom...
Concepts I really liked and want to build my own pedagogy on include:
·         Being a co-learner; allowing the people in my classroom to challenge and push me (hopefully not with behavior issues!!).
·         Giving power to the students for their learning.
·         Being creative and charting into the unknown.
·         Openness and open mindness (is that even a word?).
·         Play based learning - how cool that we as teachers can let our learners play to learn!!
These are all my beliefs and the things that I want for my little boy – (gush, gush!).. So I feel like this unit is really relevant to me, and with that I am engaged!

In terms of basing my judgement on the two documents given to us.. and get back to get back on topic.. and justify why I would give myself a zero. I really don't feel like I have much of an understanding of older students physically socially or intellectually.. My experience is predominantly with younger children in regards to having my own little preppie (Eli)... helping in his classroom.. and the volunteer work I do with my sister's (Molly) class (she teaches a year one-two composite), and as such the strategies I have for dealing with diversity are going to multiply in the very near future!!! In addition I feel as though my own ICT capabilities are going to have circles run around them in relation to what my students can do.

On the upside I think I can tick of a few things which I've already got covered I am aware learning can be enhanced along with student engagement with the use of digital resources and tools.. You just have to look around to know that people.. particularly kids and drawn to technology.

While I have no grasp on the content, teaching strategies applicable to older children/youths and/or diverse cultures, curriculum, assessment or reporting knowledge of the areas Ill be teaching .. just yet... I am confident I have the skills to source everything I need... I know exactly where to go to access what need and I feel like I am very adaptable, learn quickly and actually enjoy working things out for myself - with the help of google.

I am excited at the prospect of teaching and the fact that I will be on my own little learning adventure.... learning to encompass the application of social and ethical protocol and practices, investigating, creating, communicating, managing and operating ICT's.

I based my ranking and judgement on the following two professional documents:

Doc. One being The National Professional Standards for Teachers - ICT Elaborations for Graduate Teacher Standards - Taken from the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership; which can be accessed

Doc. Two, being the Australian Curriculum ICT general capabilities for levels 4-6, which can be accessed

  1. HI Anna,

Great blog and reflections. On reading a few; it's striking the similarities in a number of reflections - great to have visibility of our 'teams' progress and we proceed.

    Cheers,

    Adam

  2. Yay go us... I'm actually beginning to warm to the idea of scaling down those hesitations I have about having myself and my feelings, emotions or reflections for a greater word... exposed on a blog for other people to see.. I think I'm beginning to see the value in it! I am not alone... We are not alone... hehe!

Thank-you for taking the time to comment.
    Happy Blogging Adam.

  3. I reckon you have a really light and breezy style going there. It's easy to read and I think a lot of people would really like it. Don't hold back on the text colour button, it looks cool. Definitely higher that a 0, I think you wrote there. There's pictures and stuff embedded, it looks sweet.

  4. Hi Anna,

Seriously great Blog!!! I agree with the above comment you have such a cruisey take on blogging which makes it very enjoyable to read! I am like you and have very little confidence with using technology especially teaching it. I really do love you posts and will try to make mine a little less formal and more fun like yours. Great Job
